Joanne Froggatt speaks up for rape victims everywhere at the Golden Globes

Joanne Froggatt won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a series, miniseries or TV movie for her portrayal of Anna on Downton Abbey — specifically for her depiction of Anna's experience and survival after being raped by a visiting valet.

While the plot was deemed by some to be exploitative at the time, Froggatt played it with extraordinary emotion, rawness and sensitivity, and she was rewarded with her first Golden Globe win.

But it's Froggatt's acceptance speech that has moved us the most.

"I received a small number of letters from survivors of rape," Froggatt told the crowd. "One woman summed up the thoughts of many by saying she wasn't sure why she'd written but she just felt in some way she wanted to be heard.

"I'd like to say, I heard you, and I hope saying this so publicly in some way means you feel the world hears you."
