Cinemax presents a new original series, Banshee, premiering on Friday, January 11th at 10PM.
Welcome to Banshee, Pennsylvania — home to a Native American community, an Amish settlement, some nazis and Lucas Hood, an ex-convict-turned town sheriff. Just so you're absolutely prepared for the first season, there's one thing you should know: No one in Banshee is 100% good. As a matter of fact, one of the most evil men in town also happens to be Amish. Everything about Banshee will make you second-guess your next pitstop on a road trip. Actually, Banshee might even make you second-guess absolutely everything. Here are three reasons why you should watch it:
3) Amish People![Amish family]()
Don't think we haven't realized just how obsessed everyone has become with the Amish culture. From a romance genre that centers around various Amish populations to not one — but two — Amish-centered television shows, it's obviously America is enthralled with Amish people. In Banshee, you'll not only experience good, what we consider "typical" Amish, but some more corrupt Amish people, too. When you're surrounded by a million other cultures, including mafia families, a Native American tribe and a bunch of angry nazis, it's hard not to get pulled down.
2) Violence
For better or worse, Americans also love violence and Banshee is full of it. In various previews, we've watched the sheriff beat up some guys outside a barn and throw a skinhead into a wall. We've also seen an Amish guy knock out all the teeth of a townsperson because he refers to his father using a less-than-flattering nickname. Eek.
Watch the first official trailer for the new Cinemax Original Series, Banshee, from the creator of True Blood. Banshee premieres Friday, 1/11, at 10PM.
1) Sex
You know True Blood? Yeah. Banshee has the same creator. Topped only by The Tudors, True Blood has had some pretty sexy scenes, has it not? You can definitely expect the same from Banshee, too. Lucky for us, most of those scenes will star Sheriff Hood, played by the very hot Aussie Antony Starr. Whether he's hooking up with his ex or some new girl from town, he'll still be climbing into bed with someone. What more could you ask for?
In Irish folklore, a banshee is a female spirit who brings the omen of death. There's certainly a lot of death in Banshee, PA. Make your first visit on Friday, Jan 1 at 10 p.m. on Cinemax.
